Is Diet an Important Part of Psoriasis Treatment?

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a super food that could magically cure psoriasis? Or a diet for psoriasis symptom elimination? The truth of the matter is that there is no medical or natural cure for psoriasis. However, in addition to continuous, daily topical treatments, the things you eat (or don’t eat) may help you manage your symptoms – and feel better, too. The National Psoriasis Foundation provides four approaches1 to dieting that may help your psoriasis experience:

  • Heart healthy
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Gluten-free
  • Vitamins

By incorporating foods that exhibit these properties (and having a healthy exercise routine), many people say they’ve improved their psoriasis symptoms, but there’s no definitive evidence to support that.

Everyone is different. Something that works for you might not work for someone else. If you do decide to try out a certain diet to help treat your symptoms, make sure to consult with your doctor before adding any supplements or making major changes.

Remember, a diet is one way to possibly help manage flares, but your skin still needs direct treatment and protection from triggers and daily strain. The MetaDerm® Skin Health System helps promote more normal, healthy skin through continued daily use of a natural and effective formula. With ongoing use of the MetaDerm Skin Health System, you can help keep your skin looking and feeling great, regardless of what you eat.

Have you tried a “psoriasis diet”? What are some foods you enjoy or avoid? We’d love to know!
